Lakeside Swimmers Working Toward Gold Medal Recognition For 2019

USA Swimming’s Club Excellence program recognizes USA Swimming organizations with high-performing athletes 18 years and younger. Then based on points, they rank these teams and categorize them into Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers. Lakeside Swim Team has been recognized as a Gold Medal Club 14 times since the program started in the early 2000’s. This past year, Lakeside received silver medal recognition for the first time, but our athletes have been working hard to climb our way back to Gold Medal Status.

Lakeside Swim Team members earn their Black National Team Cap once they achieve their first Summer Jr National Qualifying Time. At that level, they begin scoring points for the team within the Club Excellence Program. Scoring is based on the FINA Points Table, a power point rating system that assigns point values to swimming performances. In order to be eligible to score points, athletes must achieve a Gold, Silver, or Bronze standard between September 1st, 2017 and August 31st, 2018. Points for Gold swims will be multiplied by a factor of 2.0; points for Silver level swims will be increased by a factor of 1.5, and points for Bronze swims are equal to their point value. The Gold Time Standard is equal to the 150th ranked swimmer in the world last year for the women and the 200th ranked swimmer in the world last year for the men, the Silver Time Standard is equal to the 2018 LCM Phillips 66 National Championships, and the Bronze Time Standard is equal to the 2018 LCM Speedo Junior National Championships.
