Lakeside swimmer Conner Kang was chosen as one of 48 boys from across the country to participate in USA Swimming’s National Select Camp slated for October 25-28 at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
“We’re thrilled for Conner, this is well deserved and I am very excited for him to have this opportunity.” – Coach Mike DeBoor
During the camp, Conner will experience the day-to-day routine of a National Team athlete and will utilize the state of the art training facilities and resources that the Olympic Training Center has to offer. The attendees will learn from top professionals about post-race recovery, psychological training skills, nutrition, and race strategy.
“The National Select camp is an important stepping stone for athletes on the brink of competing for a spot on the National Junior Team. A strategic element of this camp is teaching and reinforcing the National Team culture which has always been a key part of the USA’s success in international competition. We want these athletes to cultivate a deep-rooted allegiance to Team USA.” – USA Swimming
Conner is one of the top 48 USA Swimming athletes selected for the camp. Swimmers are selected from the SWIMS database of top times during the 2018 qualifying period, where the fastest three athletes in each event, ranging from 14-16 are invited. Additionally, 6 swimmers with the highest IMX scores are also invited to attend. Conner was invited for his national IMX ranking, proving himself as one of the most well-rounded young swimmers in the country. The IMX ranking includes a series of six LCM events at longer distances (400 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM).
