Lakeside Leads State With 14 Scholastic All-Americans

Following the conclusion of the 2018-2019 swim season, USA Swimming announced the names of 1,634 high school swimmers who have been selected to the 2018-2019 Scholastic All America Team. Lakeside Swim Team led the state this year with 14 of Kentucky’s 25 honorees.

To earn the title of Scholastic All American, athletes must be in 9th-12th grade and maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average during the application year, while meeting the 2018 Winter Junior National time standards in the pool. Seniors Alex Blom and Hunter Tapp led the team this year, each being honored for the third time. The program was not expanded to include freshman until last year, so they’ve been named Scholastic All-Americans every year they were eligible.

Historically, Lakeside has performed really well in the pool and the classroom, finishing top 5 in the country for the number of Scholastic All-Americans on multiple occasions. Having multiple swimmers receive this honor is a wonderful reflection on our athletes, families, and the team. This year, Lakeside had three more Scholastic All-Americans than the rest of the state, combined.
